With just days left until New Year’s Eve everyone is filled with holiday excitement! During this very active and colorful season, children are often especially excited but sometimes need help occupying themselves while adults are busy. Homemade salt dough can provide the perfect outlet for some creative energy. Children feel like they are helping and contributing to the holiday preparations, and parents can get a much-needed break. This homemade salt dough is very easy to make, and uses ingredients most of us already have on hand at home. Adding some glitter is always a fun touch, or children can paint their ornaments once they are dry. Using holiday shaped cookie cutters to create holiday themed gifts is a fantastic way to spread some holiday cheer. And grandparents love getting personalized handprint ornaments!
To make your own homemade salt dough combine the ingredients listed below in a medium sized bowl and mix well. Children love to help making this dough too! Once you have prepared your ornaments be sure to make a small hole in the top in order to hang it later. To dry the ornaments, place a 180 degree Celsius oven for ten minutes or allow to air dry overnight.
Wrap any extra salt dough in plastic wrap and keep in the refrigerator for the next time you need a quick craft on hand.
1 cup white flour (any flour will work but white flour is prettier!)
1 cup salt
1 cup warm water
3 tablespoon oil
(add colorful glitter as desired)
